Made in Holland : In 2010 there was an impressive exposition of very important Dutch seventeenth century paintings and decorative arts in museum het "Mauritshuis" in The Hague (the Netherlands). There were masterpieces from artists such as Hendrick Avercamp, Albert Cuyp, Gerard Dou, Paulus Potter, Frans Hals, Rembrandt and many other famous master painters! After that, this exposition went to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem (Massachusetts), which is the oldest museum in the United States. There it was called Golden and it was exposed even together with a beautiful collection of Dutch seventeenth century furniture and decorative arts. Both collections belong to a private collector. This unique combination of never-exhibited-before furniture and paintings will bring the interior of a wealthy Dutch seventeenth century merchant to life.
After that the exhibition was also in the Fine Arts Museums in San Francisco and in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
To commemorate this remarkable exhibition Yale University Press made Golden which is an extensive catalogue, about the paintings, the furniture and the decorative arts with many pictures. Van Aalst Antiques is honored to compose and write this latter part of the catalogue.
